Bob Cryer (1934-1994)

Bob Cryer moved, with his family in 1936, to 15 Albert Road Saltaire when he was two years old. He attended Albert Road Infant and Junior School and later won a County Minor Scholarship to  study at Salts High School. A popular member of Saltaire Cricket Club, after university he taught in Keighley schools.  He married Ann Place, in Darwen, Lancashire in 1963. Among his many personal achievements was his lead role in campaigning for and the eventual success in preserving the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway. A lifelong member of the Labour Party, he was first elected as the MP for Keighley in the general election of February 1974 and in the first paragraph of his maiden speech to parliament he made clear with whom he felt aligned …
