Bradford City Fire Story Map

On May 11 1985, Bradford City Football Club suffered a devastating fire at its packed stadium. Sadly, 56 people lost their lives and more than 250 were injured.

The aftermath of the fire is a story of medical innovation, major changes to safety legislation, and the gradual recovery and healing of the City of Bradford.

Now the strory can be told using a new interactive map, and linked educational activities. Aimed at school students in Key Stage 2, the story map has a resource to go with each place or event mentioned so that children’s knowledge and understanding of the fire and its impact on society, health and safety, law and medicine increases with each activity. It also explores local and international history as well as individual and collective identity.

Other age groups are welcome too!
