Hidden heroine: Dorothy Sharp and the origins of the Saltaire Historical Collection

Over 6,000 Items make up the Saltaire Historical Collection today and you may be surprised to learn how it began. A hidden heroine, Dorothy Sharp understood the value of preserving history. Dorothy became an assistant librarian for Shipley College and had an interest in history, producing information packs for schoolchildren. Through her work from 1987 she began to be known locally as someone who was interested in collecting and preserving materials to do with Saltaire and so the archive collection was born and began to grow!

View Dorothy’s biography, which is one of our many stories of the men and women who helped to create Saltaire.
