Saltaire Collection and Saltaire History Club worked together this year to present and exhibition to tell the stories of the unsung Heroes and Heroines of Saltaire. The exhibition was a two day event as part of Heritage Open Days and Saltaire festival. Several hundred people visited but to enable more people to find out about our heroes and heroines we promised to share what we could online. The collection does not have a permanent exhibition space, however if you would like to see items, we always welcome visitors by appointment.

Titus Salt’s story and influence on the building of Saltaire is well known. However, there are many others who made their mark on Saltaire, this exhibition will let you decide who is the most forgotten hero or heroine. The exhibition features the men and women who built Saltaire, educators, some who used their wealth for good and or worked to make life better for others.

All the biographies have been carefully researched by volunteer historians who are associated with one or both organisations, and they have created a valuable resource to add to the Saltaire Collection. We will add the biographies, images, and links to the appropriate items held in our collection over the next few months. If you follow us on Facebook or Twitter, we will let you know when there is a new addition.

If, as you read these stories, you have more information about them or other stories to add please contact our archivist by email saltairestoriesarchive@gmail.com
