At the end of July we welcomed three generations of the Salt Family and two generations of the Roberts family to Shipley College, the Saltaire Collection and Saltaire.
Nick Salt (4th generation), his son Aaron, and grandson Austin (5th & 6th generation) are direct descendants of Titus Salt Junior, the youngest son of Sir Titus Salt. The Salt Family were joined by Jamie and Angus Roberts, descendants of Sir James Roberts, who succeeded the Salt family in leading the Saltaire enterprise.
During their visit they spent time in Shipley College’s Exhibition Building where the Saltaire Collection is based. The building was commissioned by Titus Salt Junior in memory of his father and opened in 1887 to expand vocational education. The Exhibition Building continues to be used for education by Shipley College.
The visitors met Shipley College’s Senior Leadership Team, explored archive treasures from the Saltaire Collection, and reflected on the enduring impact of education and heritage in Saltaire. Some of the visitors were then given a guided tour of several highlights of Saltaire, including the United Reformed Church and Victoria Hall.
Thank you to the Saltaire Collection volunteers and our team for making this visit so special.
