Sir Titus Salt’s Hospital was opened in September 1868 and provided crucial medical help many decades before the foundation of the National Health Service. Titus Salt’s provision of social support also included the building of almshouses for people fallen on hard times.
Our volunteer Caroline Perry is researching the fascinating history of these wonderful Saltaire buildings, still very much in use today as private dwellings.
The first part of Caroline’s reasearch is now available on the website, and covers the period from the opening in 1868 up to the end of the nineteenth century.
